AIR QUALITY ASSESSMENT FOR A PROPOSED QUARRY AT SOUTH MAROOTA
An Air Quality Impact Assessment was undertaken by Benbow Environmental to determine the potential impacts of the proposed quarry at South Maroota, NSW. The quarry is expected to export 500 tonnes per week of material, to produce high quality stone products. The study has included the assessment of PM2.5, PM10, total suspended particulates and deposited dust. Air dispersion modelling using CALPUFF in accordance with the recently published CALPUFF Guidance Document by the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) was undertaken to ensure that the realistic and most accurate impacts are predicted at the nearest potentially affected residences. Results from the modelling has shown that levels of dust and particulate concentrations are well below the air assessment criteria, which indicated that the proposal would not result in excessive impacts at these affected locations. However, it was further identified that the background concentration of the local land use was providing most of the contribution of impacts to these potentially affected residences. The assessment is currently in review and feedback is to be expected shortly.
